If you’ve been following me on instagram you probably know I’ve recently slowed down my training because of ankle pain. Today was about finishing. I just needed to make it to the finish line to complete my 5 races and stay strong for my last tri of the season before heading in to longer distances next year.

I got to the race fairly early to chat with the other women and get settled. I decided to try to maintain a 170 watts which is not my best average this year and then see how I felt. At about 2 miles in I started to feel some discomfort so I pulled back. At the turn around I averaged 165 watts and started the drudge back. I knew there would be a headwind. I don’t know if it felt worse just because it wasn’t a great day but it was a struggle bus heading back. I was relieved to be back to the finish line and do a little cool down spin with my friend, Diana.

This may not have been the final race I wanted but I’m proud to have finished what I started and walk away with another trophy. Highlight of the night was watching Diana’s face light up when she was awarded 2nd place in the non-Time Trial division. This was her first trophy ever at 58 years old. I loved watching her improvement through her first Time Trial season.

Place: 2/2 Division, 2/4 Women, 19/25 Overall
Time: 28:37

Special thanks to my bike sponsor Rubber Soul for always keeping my ride in tip top shape, Betty Designs for decking me out in the best apparel, Coola for keeping my skin protected with top quality sunscreen, Balega socks for keeping my feet blister free (except when I run barefoot on the beach) and my other sponsors Boco gear, SBR sports, and Momentum Jewelery.

Life is about more than just showing up, but you can’t do great things without showing up first. #createalifeyoulove
